Origin

The original drumbox (cajon) was created from food transport boxes. Slaves of African origin used it because they were forbidden to play their traditional music instruments. Drumming was an important cultural activity for their community feeling. Nowadays, drumboxes are made with various materials and forms worldwide. The drumbox has become loved due to the fact that it is a portable and light instrument, which produces drum sounds.
